Woodland timber installation - sculpture and seating

Over the course of two working days, in the summer of 2019 Zoë Berman (Studio Berman) with Hannah Durham (Cullinan Architects) and Dr. Carolina Vasilikou lead a group of nine participants to create ‘Pause’ - a light-weight installation made of waste timber, built in the woodland of the Wyre Community Land Trust.

Pause is intended to create exactly that - to mark a moment of rest, and peace within the forest. It was created using fresh cut strips of green oak, taken from the waste leftover after the tree trunk had been cut into a usable section. We worked to develop an intervention that makes use of otherwise waste material.

The installation was created during the Studio in the Woods annual summer workshop. The workshop is convened by architect Piers Taylor (Invisible Studio) with Kate Darby (Kate Darby Architects), Meredith Bowles (Mole Architects) and Gianni Botsford (Gianni Botsford Architects). and is an ongoing education and research project that enables participants to test ideas through making at a 1:1 scale.
